When developing my Estella hair designs, I considered how I wanted people to see my character. Two characteristics of Estella that I want to show through my hair designs are heartless and innocent. I have chosen these words to try and describe Estella through her appearance, as these are her main characteristics that stand out to me. Estella is heartless in the way that she breaks Pip's heart and doesn't feel any remorse in doing so. However she is innocent because Miss Havisham has made her this way. When designing some possible hairstyles, I took these ideas into consideration and tried to incorporate them both into the hairstyle.
Design 1:
For this first idea, I have designed two victory rolls on top of the head and left the rest of the hair down at the back and curled loosely. To create this, I would begin by curling the whole head of hair, using a curling wand rather than tongs, as I would want loose curls. I would then separate the front section of hair, going from ear to ear as a guide. Then I would create a central parting within the front section and make the victory rolls. To do this, I would pin the hair down flat to the head using hair grips, then roll the hair around my fingers and pin into place with 'v' shape pins.
Design 2:
This hair design involves a high roll at the front, continued round the sides of the head, an inside out French plait and some ringlet curls framing the face. To create this design, I would begin by sectioning the front of the hair from ear to ear, and then creating two sections running behind the ears. However I would make sure two smaller sections have been left by the ears for the curls. Being sure to keep the hair left at the back of the head out of the way, I would then use padding to roll the three sections of hair back onto the head and secure with hair grips and 'v' pins. I would then create the French plait, bringing the hair underneath the plait rather than on top, to make it raised from the head. Then I would tie the plait and tuck the bottom that hangs lower than the head underneath the part of the plait that is attached to the head and secure it with hair grips. Then, using curling tongs, I will create two ringlet curls by the ears to frame the face.
Design 3:
This idea incorporates a French pleat and ringlet curls, with a central parting. To create this look, I would begin by creating the front section, using an ear to ear guide. I would then create the French pleat at the back of the head (see post from 28th January for directions in how I would create the French pleat; http://elliesimonshairandmakeup.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/the-hair-studio-french-pleats.html). Then, I would take the front section and separate two more pieces of hair by the ears and create the ringlet curls with curling tongs. With the rest of the front section, I would crate a centre parting and bring the hair round to the back of the head, tucking the ends into the top of the French pleat and pinning in place.
